Home Assistant 2025.3: A visual update that will knock your socks off!

The new Home Assistant update has just landed and it's going to blow your mind! Version 2025.3 is here, and it's going to make you see your connected home in a whole new light. Gone are the days when your dashboards looked like a mess of buttons and information. Make way for elegance and intuitiveness!

After focusing on security and backups, Home Assistant is returning to its first love: design, with some welcome new features.

Headers that stand out: your dashboard is getting bigger

Were you tired of those dashboards that started directly with your widgets? Good news: Home Assistant now offers you the possibility to add headers worthy of the name! Imagine: a personalized welcome text, informative badges, all in an elegant and responsive design. It's as if your home were welcoming you with a big smile every time you open the application!

The coolest thing? You can align these headers however you want. By default, they adapt to the size of your screen (handy when switching from a smartphone to a tablet), but you can also force them to stay on the left or in the center if you want. And for code tinkerers, you can even use templates to make it all dynamic. Your house wishing you “Good luck on this rainy day”? Now it's possible!

Tiles that say a lot: intuitiveness at your fingertips

Now let's talk about the tiles, those little magic squares that control your home. The Home Assistant team has outdone themselves on this one! Gone are the days when you had to guess whether pressing a tile would turn on your lamp or simply show you more information. Now, a quick glance is enough: if you see a little circle behind the icon, it means that the tile is interactive. No circle? It's just a piece of information, don't panic on board!

But that's not all! Tiles can now accommodate action buttons. Imagine being able to adjust the brightness of your lamp directly from the tile, without having to open another menu. It's like having a mini control panel for each device, right in front of you. Practical, right?

And for those who are obsessed with aesthetics (we're not judging you, we're one of them), know that the animations have been refined. Each interaction with a tile is now a little visual pleasure. It’s like your home is winking at you every time you interact with it!

Assist: the assistant that doesn’t make you wait anymore

Ah, Assist! Home Assistant’s voice assistant is also getting a makeover, and it’s gotten a huge boost. Gone are the days when you had to wait forever for its answer to appear in one go. Now, it answers you in streaming, as if it were thinking out loud. It’s so much more natural!

Imagine asking Assist to tell you a story. Instead of waiting 30 seconds for all the text to appear at once, you’ll see the words appear as you go.

And for those who use Assist to control their home, good news: commands are executed even faster. Assist no longer waits until it has finished formulating its response to act. You say “Turn on the light”, and poof! The light turns on before Assist has even finished telling you “Of course, I'll turn on the light for you”.

The little extras that make the difference

As always with Home Assistant, this update is full of small improvements that, when added together, make a big difference. For example, you will no longer have to manually reload your page after an update. (Goodbye, F5 key, we won't miss you!)

The integration of new devices is also more intuitive: once the configuration is complete, you are directly redirected to the device page. It's as if Home Assistant is saying to you “There you go, it's ready! Do you want to play with it?”

For home automation globetrotters, the integrated GPS map has also had a facelift. Markers now group together intelligently, avoiding the “spaghetti plate” effect when you have a lot of devices close to each other.

SmartThings: the integration that takes a giant leap

Attention, here is the cherry on the cake for SmartThings users: the integration has been completely rewritten! No more complicated configurations, ports to open, developer accounts to create. Now, it's as easy as pie: you log in with your Samsung account, and presto, it's in the bag!

But that's not all! This new integration is faster, more secure, and no longer requires exposing your Home Assistant instance on the internet.

The final word: an update that is worth the detour

In summary, this 2025.3 update of Home Assistant is once again welcome for your connected home. Customizable headers that give character to your dashboards, more intuitive tiles than ever, a voice assistant that responds instantly… Lots of small improvements that further perfect this already very accomplished home automation system.

Don't forget to make a backup before starting the update (we can't say it enough). And once it's done, have fun redecorating your dashboards! Who knows, you might discover features of your home that you didn't even suspect.
