For its 130th anniversary, Thomson has considerably revised its entire range of products, as we saw during theIFA in Berlin in September. And certain products caught our eye. This is the case with this speaker Thomson Cozy WS702, which is part of a wider range of Cozy speakers, all using the same design, but in different formats: bookshelf speakers, soundbar, etc. The model that I am offering you to discover today offers a very beautiful design, beautiful finishes, with excellent sound, all this for a very reasonable price. Without further ado, let’s move on to unboxing it…
Unboxing the Thomson Cozy WS702 speaker
The Thomson Cozy WS702 speaker is delivered in packaging that clearly highlights it and its main features.

The back of the packaging highlights the finishes and connections of the speaker:

While the technical sheet on the side informs us in more detail about the capacities and the precise connections:

Once unpacked, we have a very complete set, since we have in addition to the Thomson Cozy WS702 its power supply, but above all audio cables, a remote control, and a user manual. Only the batteries are missing!

It is a wooden enclosure which has a certain scale here, since it still measures 43cm long, 17cm deep, and 15cm high. All for just over 3kg. And yes, we have here a residential, “fixed” speaker with a power of 150w RMS! It sends wood, as they say :)

The design is as refined as possible, with all the controls grouped on the top in a small recess. Power button in the form of a retro switch, accompanied by potentiometers for adjusting the volume, but also for adjusting the bass and treble. Attention: no cheap plastic buttons here, we have real metal buttons, very high quality, which give a superb retro look to this Thomson Cozy WS702 speaker!

A small LED will also indicate the status of the speaker, if it is on and / or connected to Bluetooth.
Even if it is not made of raw wood (it is a covering), the light oak color finishes are perfect and allow you to obtain a very beautiful imitation wood speaker, which denotes a little from modern black speakers decorated with LEDs of all kinds.

At the back are hidden all the connections, as well as the holes for the bass.

And as we can see, the connections are very complete! Sound can be sent via the classic RCA plugs, but also via an optical input, or an HDMI input. This speaker can therefore easily be used to reproduce the sound of a TV equipped with an HDMI ARC socket. It should also be noted that it is possible to read files from a USB key or that there is a subwoofer output and an auxiliary jack output. Not to mention a Bluetooth 5 connection. It is certainly not a connected speaker, but it can be connected to any audio source thanks to its very complete connectivity!

On each side there is a bass port:

The bottom is equipped with 4 rubber feet, which ensure the stability of the speaker, and also allow it to be detached from the furniture for sound transmission.

Finally, at the front, under this large black fabric grille, are hidden the speakers: two woofers and two tweeters.

It's of course a matter of taste, but I find that it has even more character without its grille :)

Finally, let's not forget the accessories: this Thomson Cozy WS702 comes with the various RCA, RCA / jack cables, and even an optical cable! A complete equipment that allows you to quickly connect the speaker to most devices.

The remote control gives access to the various controls of the speaker. On / off, volume and mute adjustment, Bluetooth activation, but also access to the music, film, and voice equalizers.

We just regret the absence of batteries, which would have made a flawless accessory, but it uses classic AAA batteries, which we all normally have at home.

As we can see, we have here a very beautiful residential speaker, perfectly finished, with quality materials, and extremely complete connectivity!
Thomson Cozy WS702: in use
Using this speaker is very simple. All you have to do is connect the source you want via the appropriate cable, or connect to it via Bluetooth to enjoy its streaming music service, such as Spotify or Deezer for example.
The possibilities are numerous, since you can connect your computer, TV, console, or even your turntable. And of course your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth if you wish.

As you will have understood, personally I really like its design, which makes it a real decorative element in an interior. Its imitation light oak wood and its retro metal buttons are superb.
And on the sound side, the quality is not left behind either! The wooden cabinet allows to obtain a very beautiful acoustic, well balanced, with powerful and generous bass, while having well-defined treble and midrange. The restitution capacities are impressive, and its power allows to sound a room of 40m2 without problem. To tell the truth in my living room the sound was not pushed to its maximum, it will therefore probably be able to sound a much larger room, especially since even at high volume, I did not notice any saturation. In short, it will satisfy music lovers without problem!
Conclusion
This Thomson Cozy WS702 speaker is as much a treat for the eyes as for the ears! Its retro look had seduced me at the IFA, but it was not possible to get an idea of the sound quality, this type of living room being much too noisy for that. But I must say that it keeps all its promises. It is elegant, timeless, offers very complete connectivity, and a powerful and very well-balanced sound. The cherry on the cake: it is
offered at less than €120 ! If you are looking for a beautiful, quality, powerful, and affordable speaker, look no further! Note that it also exists in a Cosy WS502 version, more compact, since it is only 29cm long compared to 43cm for the WS702, and offers “only” 100w of power. It will be quite sufficient for smaller rooms, and
costs less than €80 .
