As smartphones are now generally delivered without a charger, it is necessary to find a charger suitable for our different devices. And if we want to take advantage of the fast charging of our recent smartphones, for example, this choice must be well oriented, with a powerful, intelligent, and secure charger. This is particularly the case with the new charger UGREEN Nexode RG RobotGaN, which turns out to be an accessory as functional as it is attractive. Sporting an original shape of a very “cool” little robot, this compact charger promises to charge your devices with remarkable efficiency.
I had the opportunity to discover this little charger during CES in Las Vegas, and I was particularly curious to see how it managed the power supply of several devices simultaneously, thanks to its three ports: two USB-C and one USB-A. And I must admit that its GaN technology impressed me with the charging speed it offers, whether for a MacBook Air, an iPhone, or even my very recent Samsung S24 Ultra. And the built-in LED display that shows the charging status came in handy. Let's find out in more detail…
Discovery of the UGREEN Nexode RG RobotGaN charger
At first encounter, you may wonder what it is, and confuse it with one of those little animated robots that are becoming fashionable for the office. But the inscriptions present remind us that it is a charger :)

Inside, we find the UGREEN Nexode RG RobotGaN accompanied by a small manual.

This charger is surprising to say the least with its design, which takes the appearance of a small robot, measuring approximately 8.5cm high. The black and gray finish is elegant, and blends naturally into any decor.

A small humanoid-shaped robot, with two legs, but no arms. Instead, the design mimics headphones on his head:

But the top of the “headset” reveals three USB ports: one USB-A and two USB-C.

The back only reveals the charger's power output, 65W, which is significant for such a small unit:

But how do you connect this charger? The 230V socket is actually hidden in the robot's shoes:

These shoes are magnetic, allowing you to attach them to your MacBook's case, for example, so you don't lose them while charging.

The UGREEN Nexode RG RobotGaN Charger in Use
Using the UGREEN Nexode RG RobotGaN is very simple: remove the “shoes”, plug it into a power outlet, and connect the devices you want to charge via USB. With two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, it allows you to charge multiple devices simultaneously, whether headphones, phones, tablets, or even a MacBook Pro/Air, for example. The fast-charging capability is impressive: it can recharge a MacBook Air M2 to over 50% in just 30 minutes with a USB-C port! As long as you use the right cables, of course ;-)

With three USB ports, I appreciated the ease of simultaneously charging a MacBook Pro, an iPhone 14, and a Galaxy S24, without the need for multiple chargers to get tangled up on my desk. Its GaN technology promises fast charging, which was confirmed by observing the significant improvement in charging times compared to my previous chargers.

The robot's “head” is actually an LED display, which is very useful for checking the charging status without having to guess. Different expressions indicate fast charging, trickle charging, or as here the absence of a device connected:

It's reassuring to see how seriously safety is taken with this product. The integrated multiple safety systems include short-circuit, overcharge, overheat, and surge protection. This is essential for me, especially when charging multiple devices simultaneously. This safety feature provides significant peace of mind, especially when charging your devices while you sleep.

It's worth noting that during use, the charger remains cool to the touch, even after charging a MacBook Pro and both smartphones simultaneously.

All this while taking up minimal space on a desk or when plugged into a wall outlet. The “robotic” design also adds a playful touch that will be greatly appreciated by geeks :)
Conclusion
I found the UGREEN Nexode RG RobotGaN charger to be versatile, aesthetically pleasing, and functional. With its fast charging performance, it charges our devices in record time, which is remarkably convenient. Its compact design and ability to charge multiple devices simultaneously meet the needs of most users, whether at home or on the go. I even used it in a hotel during a trip, and this charger was enough to charge my smartphone, MacBook, and headphones simultaneously, saving both time and space in my bag.
My only slight “disappointment” is the slightly elongated design of the legs, as the US model was a bit more compact. But this is due to the shape of our French plugs, which required this slight extension of the body to insert the charger. While the US plugs are flush, unfortunately the manufacturer can't do much about it.

The US version is a bit shorter on the legs :)
