UpLock Evolution: the secure and connected portable safe Made in France presented at #CES2023

Because nearly a million thefts are recorded each year, most of which take place in public spaces near the victims, the Toulouse-based startup UpFiner, founded at the end of 2021 by Brice Cavelier and Flavien Joly, has created UpLock Evolution: the first secure and connected portable safe that allows you to protect your most valuable belongings (wallet, keys, passport, etc.) whether you're at the beach, on public transport, in a café, etc. Presented at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, the French company aims to become a leader in portable security and smart anti-theft devices worldwide!

According to an INSEE document based on figures from the Ministry of Justice, nearly a million people were victims of theft in France in 2018. Most of these thefts took place in a public space, and two out of three times the stolen item was close to the victim (office, school, gym, etc.). 22% of victims were unaware. Yet, the stolen items are often very valuable: smartphones, money, credit cards, or even identity documents. Thieves are very discreet: on average, only 30% of them will be identified. Suffice it to say, you have little chance of getting your belongings back. According to INSEE, victims are both men and women, and are more often young (42% of victims are between 20 and 39 years old, 27% are between 40 and 59). Finally, nearly one in three thefts occurs during a tourist or business trip, when our vigilance decreases. To provide greater security in our daily lives and to intervene in a timely manner, UpFiner created UpLock Evolution. The UpLock safe was an idea I had during a trip to Spain. There was a sign on the beach promenade. “

Beware of thefts, watch your belongings.” I admit it didn't help me relax. I then mentioned the idea of ​​a safe with an alarm to the friend I was traveling with. He replied that if I invented it, he'd buy it. So I did.

UpLock Evolution is equipped with two theft detection systems and an alarm, powered by two AA batteries (lasting approximately one year):

Static: If UpLock Evolution is placed on a desk, briefcase, bench, etc., if someone grabs the safe, the alarm will sound. The only way to turn off the alarm is to put the safe down. The 85dB alarm is audible up to 100m (the volume and alarm delay are customizable depending on the circumstances). If you want to move or open your safe, simply enter your customizable 4- to 6-digit code on the touchscreen keypad.

Dynamic: Connect UpLock Evolution to your smartphone or smartwatch (via Bluetooth). Simply slip UpFiner into your bag. If someone steals your safe or the bag containing it, you'll be automatically alerted via the built-in alarm, which is triggered as soon as they move a few meters away.

With these two detection systems, it's impossible to steal your belongings discreetly! UpLock Evolution is also equipped with a steel cable to attach it to furniture when you can't use the alarm (hospital, airport, etc.).
